Book Interior Layout - Project Details

Here is a basic overview of what a book interior layout project with me looks like.

Pricing

I am happy to provide a free quote for your book interior layout for print. In order to do so, I need to see the entire book manuscript, so that I can see how long it is, how complex the formatting is, and how many graphics there are. If there are graphics or photos I need to see them as well (or need to know if you need me to create them).

Supplying your files

When submitting files for your book project, please include:

Your manuscript in a .doc or .docx file as well as in pdf format. Please ensure that the manuscript is fully edited and proofread before submitting it. (Usually editing and proofreading are two different steps. Editors focus on the bigger ideas and themes, proofreaders correct the nitty-gritty details.) Other than the body of the book of itself, don't forget to send along your copyright page information, dedication, forward, endnotes or any other front or back matter you want to have included.

Your book cover in a high resolution format (unless I am creating your cover). I request this so that I can incorporate some of the same elements or stylistic features of the cover in the interior of the book as well. If possible, include the typefaces that were used on the cover as well, or at least the names of the typefaces.

Any images, graphs, logos or chart files that will be used in the book (unless I am creating them). These should be provided as individual, clearly-labeled high-resolution files. The manuscript should also indicate where each image should be placed. Please note whether the graphics should be in color or black and white. (Even if they need to be black and white in the book, it is OK if they are supplied in color.)

Timelines

Book layout projects usually take about 4 to 5 weeks from start to finish.

Step 1: 5 business days for a sample of your custom interior layout. This is an approximately 10 page sample layout so that you can take a look and provide any feedback before the full manuscript is formatted.

Step 2: After your feedback on the initial interior sample layout is received and any updates requested have been made and approved, it takes about 10 business days for me to complete a full interior layout of your book.

Step 3: Minor changes after full interior layout usually take no more than 2 business days.

Step 4: Adaptation to ebook takes about 5 business days after the final print-ready book files are approved. During this time, the print book files can already be sent to press.

These timelines do not include time for cover design or the creation of graphics or charts for the book's interior. If your project includes these services, has complex formatting, or is more than 250 pages when it is formatted, timelines will vary. Please consult with me and let me know the details of your project, so that I can provide an accurate timeline.

At the end of the project, print-ready PDFs of your book interior will be provided to you. The original working files for your project (InDesign files) can also be provided at no additional cost if you'd like them. Ebook files are provided in both MOBI and EPUB format.
